Today, Verizon announced the availability of an Internet security suite designed particularly for Mac users. It’s the first major American ISP (Internet Service Provider) to offer a product over its network. Also, a version of Verizon Online Back-up and Sharing (VOBS) designed for Apple’s computer operating system was made available to Mac broadband consumers.

Susan Retta, Verizon vice president of consumer product management said that "Mac users are an important and growing segment of the broadband community, and Verizon is becoming more and more focused on providing them with services that enhance their online experiences, we want Mac fans to know they can turn to Verizon for online security they can't get from cable."

Just like PC, the Mac version of the Verizon Internet Security Suite (VISS) automatically updates its software and protects against viruses while users are online, in addition to firewall protection and critical parental controls. 

The VISS was awarded the 2009 Global Product Excellence Award in Internet Security Solutions by “Info Security Products Guide”.

VOBS backs-up file such as music files, digital photos and videos of families and friends. In cases of accidental damage or hard drive crashes, theft, fortuitous events, VOBS users can be rest assured that their files are safe and remotely accessible from anywhere. Plus, VOBS users can, at the same time, share this documents to anyone they wishes to.

A $2 discount will be given to Verizon customers who will sign-up for bundles of Internet, TV and voice service and combine VISS and VOBS with their bundle. New customers will receive the VISS and VOBS free for 30 days. For only $8.99 monthly, customers will have a highly rated online security software covering 3 PC’s, laptops or netbooks and up to 25GB of online backup and sharing storage space.
