Verizon Fios Installation

The first thing to do is place an order through their website . Doing this, Verizon computer will schedule you with both the BSW (Burien Service Wire) group and the technical service group.
Second, you much request for a local utilities to label existing buried things. This is a requirement in most of the state before any excavation is considered legal and to prevent any damages buried underground. The Verizon team will also send a team to mark each location where the FiOS related things will be installed such as the hand-box and BSW fiber cable.
If you have a sprinkler, it’s best that you inform the Verizon BSW contractor. That way, any damage on the property could be prevented.
The next thing is, BSW team will bury the fiber cable on the marked location, and this will go from the distribution box to you home. Once it’s done several process follows:
- BSW team will now locate the existing buried conduit ends, once they find it, they will need to dig a hole and install a small access hand box.
- They will run the fiber cable form the distribution box through the conduit, then through a shallow groove cut in your yard to the side of your house. Before completing the job, they still need to run some test to know if the fiber is working.
You don’t need to be present during the installation process but its best that you can point out things that the BSW team needs to know regarding your lawn. This process will cause your lawn to have a dead line of grass where the fiber will be run; doing so will facilitate the process.
After this, a service technical will visit your home to install the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) a device will convert fiber-optic/light signals to copper/electric signals. The Verizon technician will first verify that you have the required facilities and will test if the fiber install is working, then run in on the ONT’s location. He will then install a cable tray and use it to store the excess fiber cable and then install the battery back-up unit, power supply and other interconnection cables. Ethernet CAT5e connection will also be installed in your house, including additional jacks for an extra cost. The Verizon technician will now power up the ONT to see if it’s working.
Lastly, the Verizon technician will complete the process of provisioning your ONT. It’s done on the computer and may require him to make a phone call. If no problem or whatsoever occurs, the status light on your ONT will change to indicate that the service is already up and running. Now, the Verizon technician will set up your router, test your service and make you go through the Verizon sign-up steps, if you have acquired phone FiOS phone home service, it will also be tested.
If you are an existing Verizon DSL service, the completion of Verizon FiOS internet order will cause your DSL service to be disconnected.
